✈️ Volun-Tourist Tails 🐕🐈

Dog reads a storybook to puppies and kittens in a cozy library.

✈️🐾 BIG ADVENTURES, SMALL ACTIONS, WAGGING TAILS. 🐾✈️

Travel leaves you speechless. Then, it turns you into a storyteller.

We are incredibly excited to launch our brand-new series:

Volun-Tourists Tails! (Yes, that is a play on words because we are all about helping animals! 🐕🐈)

You do not need to give up your entire vacation to make a massive difference. This series will highlight the quick, simple things you can do to support local rescues while traveling.

Think:

📦 Dropping off a bag of much-needed supplies

✈️ Escorting a rescue animal on your flight home

🐕 Taking a shelter dog for a fun beach walk

How you can help right now:

Each "tail" we share will feature a rescue or two that desperately needs support. When you read their stories, please consider adding them to your donation list! Every dollar and every donated item changes a life story.

✈️🐾 How to Help Rescue Animals When You Travel! 🐾 ✈️

Did you know you can make a massive difference for rescue animals while on vacation? Many shelters in popular travel destinations operate with limited resources. If you have extra space in your suitcase, bringing a few essential items can change lives.

📦 What Shelters Need Most Right Now

  • Gear: Collars and leashes (new or gently used).
  • Containment: Hard and soft travel crates.
  • Feeding: Durable metal bowls.
  • Recovery: E-collars (cones) for post-surgery healing.
  • Cleaning: Laundry detergent sheets and heavy-duty garbage bags.
  • Utility: Zip ties for securing gates and fences.

✈️🧳 Pro-Tip: Check for Humanitarian Baggage Waivers!

Before you pay for an extra suitcase, ask your airline about a humanitarian luggage allowance or fee waiver. Many major airlines will waive baggage fees for registered charities, rescue groups, or travellers delivering humanitarian aid. The rescue organization you are helping can often provide a formal letter to give to the airline's cargo or customer service department ahead of time.

🤝 How to Coordinate

Make sure to message the local shelter ahead of time. When you contact them, you can easily arrange a convenient time for drop-off at their facility, or see if a volunteer can pick up the items directly from your hotel or resort.

⚠️ Crucial Travel Reminder

Before you pack, always check your airline's baggage guidelines and the customs regulations of your destination country. Some regions strictly prohibit or tax certain materials, medications, and/or food. Always confirm with the shelter first to ensure they can accept your specific items!

💰 Don't Have Extra Luggage Space?

Donating cash is always a great option! Financial gifts allow shelters to buy fresh food, pay for emergency vet care, and purchase supplies locally without shipping fees.
